Characteristics
Description
Ballet in one prologue and three acts based on Alexandre Dumas fils’s novel
Inspired by Alexandre Dumas Jr.’s novel, John Neumeier extracted the romantic essence of the story to deliver the tragic intimacy of its heroine, Marguerite Gautier. He paints characters of intense psychological depths and gives a body to the emotions of the famous courtesan. Throughout sumptuous ball scenes and sublime pas de deux the choreographer intertwines memories with dreams and connects Marguerite and Armand’s fate to the one of Manon Lescaut and the Chevalier des Grieux. Chopin’s score instils its own interiority into the ballet, while the costumes and decors designed by Jürgen Rose inhale the scent of a past era.Les Étoiles, les Premiers Danseurs et le Corps de Ballet
